New Pilosocereus from Minas Gerais

A new dwarf subspecies of Pilosocereus fulvilanatus was discovered by Pierre Braun and Eddie Esteves in 1987. It is much shorter than the type and tends to proliferate from the base.
As the type it grows in the state of Minas Gerais, but much further south.

Pilosocereus fulvilanatus (Buining & Brederoo) F. Ritter
ssp. vanheekianus
P. J. Braun & Esteves.

The subspecies was named after Werner van Heek from Germany:
The formal description is in Kakteen und andere Sukkulenten (no. 7, 2004).
